Using your patio in the fall and winter can be just as fun as using it in the spring and summer. Shorter days and longer nights lend to a need for good lighting and warmth from a great firepit. Choose from incandescent and LED patio bulbs and commercial grade lights strings to create your own patio string lights! Or, illuminate outdoor landscapes with rope lights! Some have vivid colors and options with animated effects!
There are few things as relaxing as sitting around a warm fire! This is also a great tool for entertaining guests and creates a great central area
for your patio. Roasting marshmallows is a must or sitting with a mug of hot cider! There are a lot of varieties. My son-in-law took a drum from an old washer. The holes in the tub illuminate and add drama to the patio. Plus, it cost him $10. The fire pit can be out of stone, brick, even a grill type pit can be used. Along with the pit you might add a wood fired pizza oven for fun.
Hot tubs are great ways to use the patio during the cooler months. Why not warm up with a soak and sooth your achy bones at the same time. There is nothing better than a Colorado walk followed by warm water.
A screened in porch can be an option to keep the chill off. Think about adding heated floors to the porch. What get’s cold the first thing in the winter? Your feet and hands! Having the option to take the chill off by heating your toes can go a long way toward being comfortable. Another option would be to put in screens. This can help keep the cold wind off the neck and back. If you can block the wind, your chances of being warmer are much higher. Also, offer your guests blankets and warm roasted nuts.
